Dry eye affects millions of people around the world, causing a number of medical, social and economic consequences. Its prevalence varies between 14 and 33%, a number that increases considerably with age and is much more frequent in women. Studies show that dry eye is a multifactorial eye disease, characterized by the loss of homeostasis in the tear film, causing instability, inflammation and even severe damage.
